Obituary for Mary Lou Galvin

Mary Lou (Wetton) Galvin of Enumclaw, WA, after a number of special 80th birthday celebrations with family and friends, passed away suddenly on Thursday, June 29, 2017 in Black Diamond, WA.

She was born to the late Richard Wetton and Margaret (Campbell) Wetton on June 20th, 1937 in Enumclaw, WA. On Jan 30, 1944, the family added twin sons, Jim and Dick (deceased) Wetton. The family lived together in both Enumclaw and Black Diamond.

On May 14, 1954, Mary Lou married the love of her life, J Michael (Mike) Galvin. After starting out in Black Diamond and Maple Valley, they settled in Renton to raise their growing family, Rick, Kathy, Steve and Gary. In 1994, Mike and Mary Lou returned to Enumclaw, where they enjoyed the last years of their lives. For those of us fortunate enough to have witnessed their loving relationship, it was a love story to cherish and remember.

As her family grew, Mary Lou focused her love and attention on her grandchildren. She was a deep and profound influence in all of their lives and helped shape the values and characteristics they all hold true today. After Mike Galvin passed away suddenly in 2000, her grandchildren, great grandchildren and a volunteer spirit filled the void left by deep loss. She touched countless lives but none more than her family.

Mary Lou always found time to bring her special gifts to those in need. She joined the teaching staff at the Thompson School (Renton School District) with a focus on special needs children and later at Nelson Middle School. She was a gifted and respected teacher and appreciated by her students and fellow teachers.

Mary Lou was a longstanding member of the Children's Home Society, the P.E.O. Foundation, Plateau Outreach Ministries, Destiny House, Quilts of Valor and a number of other volunteer groups. Her deep commitment to helping others was a constant value throughout her life.

Later in life, Mary Lou developed a passion for travel, enjoying many special trips with family and especially sister-in-law, Susan Harvey and cousins, Jill Coulthard, Dee (Jim) Adams and Peg (Roger) Johnson.

Mary Lou is survived by her sons Rick (Cathy) Galvin, Gary Galvin and daughter Kathy Galvin, brother Jim (Kathy) Wetton, granddaughter Jacqueline (Kevin) Van Hoof, grandsons, Daniel, Blake, Chase, Tim, Reese & Evan Galvin and great grandchildren Riley Suhoversnik, Isabella and Jameson Van Hoof. She also leaves behind many special and caring relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Mike Galvin, son Steve Galvin, parents Richard & Margaret Wetton and brother Dick Wetton.

At her request, there will be a private family ceremony on the North Jetty at Long Beach, WA where she will rejoin her loving husband Mike Galvin. The Galvin family wishes to thank all of those who have been a loving and caring part of her life.

Memorial Donations may be made to: Plateau Outreach Ministries, PO Box 391, Enumclaw, WA 98022.
