Antonia Hlede passed away peacefully on April 12, 2024. Antonia was born to Anton & Emelija Hlede on January 6,1933 in Buckley, WA. Antonia’s parents arrived from Austria, and in 1928 moved to Buckley. Antonia’s father believed that all young kids should know how to work hard mentally and physically and what better place to do that than on a dairy farm! They bought 50 acres and started the Hlede Dairy Farm raising fine Holstein cows and horses. In 1986 the Hlede Dairy Farm received the "Dairy Farm of the Year" award from the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture Conservation Districts. In the year 2000 the Hlede Dairy Farm was recognized with the highest award for its "Contribution to Clean Water in the South Puget Sound Water Shed” from the Washington State Dept. of Ecology. Her cheerfulness and good outlook on life will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Anton & Emelija Hlede; three brothers, Anton Hlede, Jr., Doniel Hlede, Aloise Hlede and two sisters, Amelia Hlede & Roseanna Hlede; Antonia was the last Hlede in Buckley, although she is survived by numerous relatives in Europe. Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, May 2, 2024, at 11:30 am at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Buckley with burial at Buckley City Cemetery immediately following.
