Our beloved Dolores Irene Orehek Wilkening passed away peacefully surrounded by her family after a long-term illness on March 9, 2017 at the home of her daughter, at the age of 88. She was born January 25, 1929 in Black Diamond, WA and died on the same piece of property. She is the daughter of Frank and Teresja Rose (Kovac) Orehek.
Dolores was a hard worker and as a young girl earned money picking in the berry fields for school clothes. She attended grade school in Black Diamond and graduated from Enumclaw High School in 1947. After high school she worked in Seattle for the telephone company. She married her high school sweetheart Joe Lee Wilkening on August 14, 1948 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Enumclaw, WA. The reception was held at the VFW Post in Maple Valley and is remembered as one of the best by the family.
Shortly after their marriage they moved to Sweet Home, Oregon to find a job and live by family members. During that time four daughters were born. Later they moved to a small farm in Holley, it was at that time they joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and made long lasting friendships.
In the spring of 1964 they moved back to Black Diamond to take care of her mother and eventually lived in the same house she grew up in until 4 years prior to her death.
Dolores worked for the Boeing Co. in the tool department and retired shortly after the passing of her husband. As a widow, it didn't stop her from going places that she wanted to go. She loved the Lord and served 4 major missions: Micro-film records in England; a service mission in San Diego, CA; and 2 missions at the Family History Center in SLC, UT. She has served in various church callings and was always stretching her hands to serve her family, friends and the Lord.
Genealogy was her hobby and she made many albums of family history. Another passion was taking trips around the world. Dolores loved working outside in her garden and flower beds and also crocheting beautiful doilies and baby afghans. The family enjoyed many camping trips together. Her greatest joy came from connections with her family and many lifelong friends she made on her life's journey.
Dolores is survived by daughters, Diana Lynn (Dan) Peterson, Yvonne Rose (Bob) Krah, Cynthia Joe (Mark) Chapman, and Rebecca Sue (Earl) Patterson; 10 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and sister, Mitzie (Donald) Barrie.
