Donald Henry Schmitt died April 7, 2017 in Enumclaw. He was born April 9, 1039 in Glasgow, Montana to Violet and Henry Schmitt. During his high school years, Don worked with his father at Schmitt's Texaco in West Seattle. His career in aviation began by trading his car for a Piper Cub, which he rebuilt at his dad's gas station.
In 1966, he was hired by Alaska Airlines as a flight engineer on the C-130 Hercules. During his flying career he piloted a wide variety of aircraft, including the Twin Otter, B720 and as captain of the B727. He retired in 1993 after 27 years with the airline. He flew all over the globe, but he was always happy to return home to Enumclaw. The most important things in his life were family, friends, his faith, oh…and airplanes! After retiring Don and Pat traveled to Australia, New Zealand, Czechoslovakia, and visited some relatives in Switzerland.
He is loved and will be greatly missed by his wife, Pat; daughter, Stacy (Kyle); four sons, Kevin, Jeff (Beth), Greg (Carol), and Jay (Carry); seven grandchildren, Harrison, Hayden, Trevor, Christian, Zachary, Olivia, and Ellie.
