Lawrence Olaf "Butch" Nelson died July 13, 2012 from injuries sustained in an auto accident. He was born in Enumclaw on January 15, 1921 to Olaf and Byrdis (Sandnes) Nelson. Lawrence attended high school in Enumclaw where he played varsity football. After high school, Lawrence moved to southern California and found work with Douglas Aircraft. He worked for the company until 1981, when he retired and returned to Enumclaw with his wife of 50 years, Opal. Lawrence served in the Navy during WWII and spent time in the South Pacific as a gunner on a troop carrier. Lawrence was a talented craftsman and enjoyed building dollhouses and miniature furniture for nieces, nephews, grandkids, great grandkids and other lucky kids.
He was preceded in death by his parents Olaf and Byrdis Nelson, his sister Georgine Randall, his brothers Charles Nelson and Robert Nelson and his wife Opal Mae Nelson.
He is survived by his son Dr. Michael Keith Nelson DC and his wife Sarah of San Clemente, California; and 3 nephews and their families: Robert Nelson of Tumwater; Tim Nelson of Enumclaw; and Mike Nelson of Enumclaw.
