Michael George Rossi passed away in his sleep May 19, 2017 in Black Diamond, WA. Mike or as many called him "Rico" was born in Renton, July 13, 1949 . He was the son of Albert Rossi, a 2nd generation Coal Miner in Black Diamond, and Beatrice (Grady) Rossi.
His paternal grandparents came from Italy to work the coal mines in Black Diamond, WA. Mike was very proud to be the son of a coal miner and sometimes his father Al would take him down as a child to the Green River mines to see the operation.
Mike had a wonderful childhood, filled with fishing and hunting pheasants with his dad, playing in the woods and swimming in the Green River. His sister Linda Rossi was the 1st girl to play little league in Black Diamond and Mike followed in her footsteps, playing baseball. Rico was born to play from little league to men's softball. He was the team captain of the famous "Black Diamond Merchants" which dominated the Enumclaw Softball Leagues in the early 80s. Many MVP trophies were given to Rico, his pitching skills were hard to top. He also was a superior horse shoe player, bowler, established bird hunter and fisherman.
Family was everything to Mike and his parents. Rico's greatest joy was the day his beautiful daughter Jenna Mae Rossi was born in 1985. He was a very hands on dad from changing diapers to taking Jenna exploring the woods, fishing in the Green River and bird hunting in Moses Lake.
The crown jewels of his life was the birth of his grandson Howie (Rossi) Koch in 2011 and the birth of Howie's sister Phoenix (Rossi) Neary in 2015. Both grandchildren brought such happiness to Mike.
Mike served with great honor in the US Army as a Ranger with the 173rd Airborne Brigade, completing a tour in Vietnam after which he was honorably discharged. He then went on to work for Boeing and retired after 30 years.
Mike was a true Black Diamonder, a true coal miner's son and proud of his Italian/Yugoslavian heritage. He was preceded in death by his grandson Howie; sister Linda; mother and father Beatrice and Al Rossi.
Donations can be made in honor of Mike's grandson Howie to Alex's Lemonade stand Foundation.
We will all miss this great and gentle man.
A Funeral with Military Honors will be held June 24th, 2017 at 12pm at The Black Diamond Cemetery, Black Diamond, WA. A memorial service will follow at the Black Diamond Eagles hall the same day at 1pm.
