Rosa Hightower was born November 25th. 1928 in Tallahassee, Florida to the late Preston Chandler and Reather Jones (Chandler) she was one of 3 children.

As an adult, Rosa moved to Tacoma where she became a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. It was there she met, fell in love, and married Private Clenton Earl Hightower, US Army, and it is also where their journey began.

Rosa enjoyed traveling. Clenton's military career allowed them to travel the United Sates, and as far as Bumholder Germany. In 1969 the family returned to Tacoma and their Bethlehem Baptist Church family.

Rosa loved serving the Lord through her church, where she was a devoted member for over 60years. Rosa diligently served as a Deaconess Ministry, and was a member of the Senior Choir for many years. She Supported several ministries over the years including the church Food Bank Program, and was one of the many members who helped bring to fruition Bethlehem's Family Life Center, which serves and supports the East Tacoma community.

Rosa was a woman of many talents. As a seamstress, she could begin sewing a pattern on Friday and have it ready to wear to church on Sunday with a hat to match! An avid gardener and preserver, she loved to grow string beans, tomatoes, greens, and zucchini. Rosa shared he talent for baking by blessing all with her homemade rolls, butter pound cake, 7-up cake, peach cobble and sweet potato pies.

Rosa Worked many years for the Tacoma School District. Her career began as a "lunch lady" in the cafeteria and promoted to become a Custodial Engineer, earning her a Boilers License before she retired in 1985.

Rosa was truly the queen of her castle. Whether you know it as "the Hightower's", "the house", "mom and dad's", or "granny's", she made the family house a home and everyone was welcomed with open arms.

Rosa was preceded in death by her beloved husband Clenton only 17 months earlier. she leaves to cherish her memory, daughters; Etrula Hightower-Matson, Cynthia Hightower Stevenson (Gary), and son Toron Hightower (Athena). Grandchildren; Shawn and Lakesha Edwards, Sade' Matson, Eric LaWon Merritt-Hightower, LaTre Godsey, Martese and Dakarai Hightower. Great Grandchildren; Na'Aujah Knight, Wytoni Jennings, Que'Veon and Zahne Jenkins, Kashi Bright, Mason Merritt, Kimora Godsey, Zhionna and Kay'lavinie Stevenson, a host of extended family and friends including Moses Godsey, and Flossie Welcher.
