Obituary

Susan Anne (Frye) Hollandsworth, age 77 of Buckley, passed away peacefully at her home on January 20th, surrounded by family and friends.
Susan was born on May 26, 1939 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. In 1941 the family moved to Seattle, Washington, settling in the Wedgewood neighborhood. At the age of 12, Susan contracted polio. Although left paraplegic, she didn't let that slow her down. She graduated from Roosevelt High School where she was involved in many student activities, then from Pacific Lutheran University where she earned her degree in education. Susan loved working with children and taught grades 3-5, first at Shoreline Elementary in Seattle, and then for the White River School District before retiring in 1996.
Susan's pride and joy was the custom home designed by she and her sister Margaret, and built for her by husband Richard. It was her dream English Cottage featuring a robust, hand-made arched wooden entry door, bay windows and magnificent gardens. Susan loved all things British, from English literature to Masterpiece Theater. She was artistic and enjoyed writing, painting, sewing and other crafting projects. She loved her friends greatly and enjoyed their many adventures together. Days at the races, luncheons, concerts, watching movies and of course, shopping. She also had a great love for her dogs Abercrombie and Dolly.
Susan was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Hollandsworth, and her step-daughter, Linda Toycen (husband Jaymes). Survivors include her brother Robert Frye, sister Margaret Douglas (husband Norm), step-daughter Susan Burk (wife Cathy), sister-in-law Sheila Fast (husband Don), brother-in-law David Hollandsworth (wife Susan), nieces Anne Fuerbach (husband Jason), Kerry Hollandsworth and Jill Hamilton (husband Christian), nephews Rolf Douglas, Ryan Fast (wife Gail) and Dan Fast (wife Darcie) and granddaughters Katrina Burk (fiancée Jonathan Alexander), Emily Toycen and Rachel Toycen.
A Celebration of Life/Open Reception will be held on Saturday, March 18th from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Mama Stortini's Restaurant – 3207 East Main Ave – Puyallup WA 98372.
