Norman Arnold Payne, 84, died February 24, 2017 in Black Diamond, WA. He was born January 23, 1933 to George and Zelda Payne in Corvallis, OR. He lived in Black Diamond for the last 11 years and for many years before that in Troutdale and Gresham, OR. He graduated from Gresham High School in 1951 where he played football and baseball. Norman was in the Army stationed in Washington, DC where he met and married Irene Jane Payne (1935-2011). He was honorably discharged in 1955. Norman graduated from Oregon State with his BS in Business with an emphasis in Grocery Sciences. He worked for Fred Meyer, Topco, IGA and State Farm where he retired in 1998. Norman loved the Oregon Coast, travel, and being with friends and family. He was passionate about competitive swimming, Linfield College football, and Civil War history.

He is survived by three children, Jeffrey Payne (Betsy), Jennifer Huserik (Randall), and John Payne (Christine); six grandchildren, Johnathan, Jeffrey Jr., Alison, Lauren, Harrison, and Blake; and cousin Don Payne.

A memorial service with military honors is scheduled for Friday, March 10, 2017 at 9:30am at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, OR. Arrangements are by Weeks' Enumclaw Funeral Home. A reception will be held at the Monarch Hotel in Clackamas, OR at 11:00am. Memorial donations may be made to the Oregon State Athletic Fund at www.ourbeavernation.com.
