David P. Odiorne Sr., resident of Black Diamond, Washington passed away peacefully and comfortably on the morning of May 6th, 2018. He was 69 years old. Dave was born April 11th, 1949 in Dover, New Hampshire. Dave, the son of Chester and Mary Odiorne, was an only child. He graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1967 and studied at the Culinary Institute of America in New Haven, Connecticut shortly thereafter. Big Dave wed the love of his life Christine Smith of Otter River, Massachusetts on June 7th, 1969. Big Dave was employed at the Seamen Paper Mill as a papermaker for over 40 years. During that time, he and Chris purchased a home in Otter River, Massachusetts, and started a family by adopting a son David Jr. and a daughter Tina Marie. Shortly after retiring from the paper mill in 2010, Big Dave and Chris relocated to Black Diamond, Washington to be closer to their daughter Tina and her family. Once relocated Big Dave enjoyed his retirement and most especially his grandchildren. His time was spent attending sporting events, school functions, family outings and vacations. Dave always enjoyed spending time with his family, boy scouts with his son Dave, family trips, a good book, wood working, and a nice family dinner. Dave was always willing to lend a hand if you were in need. Chris and Dave were happily married for 46 years, filled with love and devotion, until Chris lost her fight with cancer in August of 2015. The loss of his wife weighed heavy on Dave’s heart and he longed to reunite with his soulmate Chris until he finally passed on Sunday morning. Big Dave is survived by his son Davey Jr., daughter Tina, son-in-law Jack, and their three sons: Garrett, Carter, and Brady. He will be forever loved and remembered as the gentle, quiet, kind, loving Grandpa who always had just the right special gift on Christmas or a birthday.
A graveside service will be held at Evergreen Memorial Park in Enumclaw, Washington on Saturday, May 19th at 2pm. Reception at Jack & Tina’s to follow directly after.
