Gayle Eileen Parmenter

 Gayle Eileen Parmenter was born on October 18, 1945, in Everett, WA, where her dad was working at Paine Field.  Not many months later, the family relocated to Enumclaw to the front corner of the farm owned by her paternal grandparents, who had quit-claimed a lot, had a house rolled across the farm fields, and then set on a foundation built for the young family.  In 1949, the family moved to Porter Street directly across from what was Enumclaw Jr-Sr High School, where the 4 Parmenter kids finished their growing-up years.  Graduating in 1963, Gayle was a high-school cheerleader and Homecoming Princess, and married Enumclaw logger and former Hornet athlete, Warren Lokovsek in 1965.  They had two beautiful, energetic daughters, Deena and Kim.  Eventually divorcing, Gayle then married French-Canadian Rene Duranleau, who was well-incorporated into the family until their separation after 14 years. 

Gayle was widely known in town as a retail worker who clothed the women of the Enumclaw area over several years of employment at Leo’s.  When the apparel store closed, she continued her retail career at Big J’s, with the Arnett’s, the original owners of Leo’s.  Gayle loved tennis and was an active player for many years.  She was an enthusiastic gardener and fed hundreds, if not thousands of hummingbirds over the years.  She enjoyed get-togethers with several high school friends who remained in the area. An avid Mariners fan, Gayle followed multiple team-blogs, and watched almost every televised game, even during some pretty frustrating years.  But most of all Gayle adored her two daughters and five grandchildren, attending their birthday gatherings, graduations, and many of their sports events or watching them on her high-tech sports app.  And were those kids ever crazy about their Grammy!

Her survivors include daughter, Deena Lokovsek of Buckley, and grandchildren, Drew, Brie, and Lane Maras; daughter, Kim Campbell of Buckley, and grandchildren, Eric and Tyson Campbell as well as the addition of Klein, the son of Jason Carter, Kim’s partner.  She also leaves siblings, Penny Koyama of Bothell WA (husband, David); Gary Parmenter of Enumclaw, and Keith Parmenter (wife, Jodie) of Sumner WA; nieces Rachel Koyama Torrie (husband, Matt) and Emily Koyama, both of Seattle; great nephew & niece, Jake & Kate Torrie; and many extended family members.

Gayle passed away peacefully at Multicare Auburn on August 2, 2019, after having been diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer in early July.  Deciding to fight, she had her first chemo on July 15, but collapsed at home on July 20, and spent the remaining days in ICU.  Lovingly attended to by her daughters, she was communicative until her last few hours.  We will all miss her humor, her energy, and her generosity, but we imagine her flying with her hummingbirds.
