In the early evening of February 25th, Jeanne Owen Jones quietly left her earthly home to be united with her savior, Jesus Christ. Born on April 21st, 1930 to Charles and Evelyn VanHoof in Buckley, Jeanne lived most of her 88 years in and around Buckley.
Growing up in the depression years of the ‘30s and war years of the ‘40s she learned from her parents the value of hard work and the value of being thrifty which she carried with her throughout her life. She graduated from Buckley High School in 1948. She married Leonard Owen on June 26th, 1948, and they lived the first 12 years of their married life on the Pipe Line Road just outside of Buckley. For the next 4 years they lived in Wenatchee, Gorst and Seattle when they decided that Buckley was a pretty good place to live and a good place for the kids to go to school and bought a home at the “Buckley Y” where Jeanne lived for the next 40 years.
Leonard died in October of 1986 from cancer. Jeanne continued working full time and spent many weekends at their beach property near Ocean Shores. In the summer of 1990 Jeanne met up with a former classmate of the Buckley High School class of 1948, Cliff Jones, and they were married in December of the same year. Together their combined family was now 7 kids plus spouses and grandkids. Cliff and Jeanne loved to travel and had many trips to Hawaii, a trip to England, Wales and Scotland and went on many cruises plus road trips around the western states. There were also many family gatherings at the beach. Only declining health kept them from more travel adventures.
Jeanne is survived by her husband, Cliff Jones and her sons Charles Owen (Carol), Alvin Owen (Rhonda) and daughter Pat Johnson (Kirk) all living in Buckley. Her grandchildren are Dr. James Johnson, Karen Johnson, Leonard Owen, Stephanie Song, Dr. Cullen Owen and Elise Jokela plus 5 great grandchildren and one on the way. Jeanne is also survived by Cliff’s children Ken Jones (Emily), Dennis Jones (Barbara), Kathy Kneifel (Juergen) and Pam Johnson (Greg) plus 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
