Rich Van Dam

October 14, 1949 ~ September 15, 2017 (age 67) 67 Years Old

Richard Edward Van Dam, our loving Husband, Dad, Grandpa, Brother, Uncle and Friend went home to be with the Lord on September 15, 2017 at the age of 67.

Rich was the third child born to Henry and Grace Van Dam in Artesia, CA on October 14, 1949. Raised on a dairy farm, he learned early what a strong work ethic was all about. At the age of 18, Rich moved to Auburn, WA with his family to begin farming in the northwest. He forgot one very important thing in California and went back to marry his high school sweetheart, Judi (Vanderburg) on June 19, 1969.

Rich and Judi took a leap of faith and started their own dairy farm in Enumclaw in 1975. Together, they raised two daughters and one son. Rich loved farming and he could sit for hours on his deck watching the cows. He enjoyed taking his family camping and fishing. He also spent many hours watching football, volleyball and basketball games. Rich and Judi spent 33 years on that farm before hanging up their barn boots.

A devoted husband and family man, Rich had a loving and close relationship with all of his children and grandchildren. Rich was happiest when he was surrounded by his family. He enjoyed playing cards with his buddies, singing in the men's choir, and watching his grandkids' ball games. Rich lived his life with purpose. He led by example and modeled for his children and grandchildren how to do the right thing; even when it's hard. Rich made a lasting impression on all who met him. He will be missed dearly.

Rich is survived by his wife of 48 years Judi, children Richelle and Kevin Kranc, Renae and Tim Hanson, and Rich and Liz Van Dam, grandchildren Kendra, Kellen, Lauren, Karsyn, Ty, Ellis, Taelon and Dawson; siblings Diane & Bill VanStraalen, Nelva DeJong, Trudy & Ralph Plowman, Hair & Debbie Van Dam, Glenda & Hank Celigoy, and a large extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Grace Van Dam.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given in his honor to the Cole Atkins benefit fund at the White River Credit Union, Wabash Church or the American Cancer Society.
