Longtime Enumclaw resident Robert "Bob" McKinlay passed away with his family by his side at home on September 11th, 2017 after a five-year battle with lung cancer.
Born in Twin Bridges, Montana on May 23, 1935 to Robert Sr. and Elsie McKinlay. He had two brothers, Dave and Jim. The family moved to Washington when Bob was five. He met his wife Joan at age 16 and they were married on July 9, 1955. Together they had three children. Bob had a great sense of humor and was known for his quick wit and collection of clever comebacks. He had a great passion for woodworking and made his career remodeling and building homes. He served as a volunteer fireman for 33 years on the Enumclaw Fire Department. He was a loving Husband, Father and Grandfather who treasured his family more than anything. He enjoyed and looked forward to all family gatherings. Bob loved spending time at their place on Hood Canal and with friends. He enjoyed whittling wooden cowboys, watching all sports especially the Seattle Seahawks, working in his yard, and spent many hours puttering around in his shop.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years Joan; son Michael McKinlay of Enumclaw; daughters Cheryl Burnside (Ed) of Black Diamond, and Donna Holm (Girard) of Bonney Lake; 11 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; brother Jim (Carol) of Auburn; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Dave.
An open house celebration of Bob's life will be held on Saturday, October 7th from 2pm to 4pm at the Enumclaw Fire Station.
