Siegfried Walter Sched, “Siegi” for short, was born in Munich, Germany on March 22, 1938, to Martin and Franziska (Wurm) Sched. He was born during a time of war, misery and hunger. Siegi developed at an early age mechanical skills and was able to complete a 3 ½ year apprenticeship before going on to study engineering, at the Munich Politechnikum University in Munich. He met his now loving wife Margarete Hoeger at the young age of fourteen, they were both part of a youth group. Only his girlfriend Margarete was a restless soul, she left him for many years to study and work abroad. When she returned in 1962, they got married and had interesting jobs in aviation and publishing. Margarete’s restlessness came back in 1966 and the couple left Germany for the U.S. and Canada. Together they climbed mountains, made lifelong friends, and even travelled for a year in South America. Then came a job offer to be a driver and guide for a German tourism company in the U.S. and all over the world. After crossing the U.S. many times driving a tour bus, Siegi said he had enough of tourism. He then started to acquire real estate in his beloved Washington State. He built and worked and built some more, especially on his home with a view on 10 acres. Siegi found his true contentment being settled down and part of a community with many friends and his church family.
Siegi’s last 18 months since being diagnosed with lung cancer were partly filled with travel. The last 4 months were extremely painful with the illness having attacked the spine. Siegi was the stoic trooper all the way to the end, never complaining, and expressing gratitude for a very rich life.
Siegi is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Margarete, 7 godchildren, and many extended family members and friends from around the world.
