Born in Stenen, Saskatchewan, Canada, on April 6, 1938, to Paul and Mary Yawney. She died at home surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, December 15, 2018.
At the age of 11, her family moved to Treesbank, Manitoba. Sylvia graduated from St. Michael's Academy and worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance. In 1961, she married Zeke Ewaskow.
Immediately after the wedding, they left for Weisbaden, Germany. Zeke was a Flight Lieutenant for the Royal Canadian Air Force. After his service, he joined United Airlines and settled in the Puget Sound area. Zeke died of a sudden heart attack in 1971.
Sylvia's Roman Catholic Faith was very important to her. She was always very active in her Church and community. She volunteered in many activities: Taught catechism classes, President of the Ladies' Guild, volunteered at Sumner High School on the hiring committee, assisted with literacy programs at several schools, volunteered at Rainier School, Good Samaritan Hospital and the Washington State Soldiers Home and donated blood through the Cascade Regional Blood Services (more than 12 gallons).
Sylvia worked at the Boeing Company for 22 years. She enjoyed her time there and her many coworkers.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Zeke. Sylvia is survived by her brother, Stan Yawney, and children Sandy, Karen, Tim and Colleen and grandchildren Michael and Alicia.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, December 20, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Martin of Tours Roman Catholic Church with
Fr. Radermacher presiding.
The Rosary will be prayed at 10:00 a.m. before Mass.
A luncheon will be held in the Church Hall following Mass.
