Thomas (Tom) Edwin Lindberg

Thomas (Tom) Edwin Lindberg passed away at his home in Buckley on July 23, 2018. He was 65.
 
Tom was born in Seattle August 1, 1952. He graduated from Puyallup High School, class of '71. He studied forestry at Green River Community College and worked for Weyerhaeuser before going to work for The Boeing Company in 1979. Tom moved to Buckley in 1985, where he has happily been a resident for 33 years. He was a member of the Buckley Eagles Aerie 1387 and was well known and loved throughout the community.

Tom retired from Boeing in 2010, where he worked as a mechanic for 32 years. He was very proud to be in the machinist union and served as a volunteer with them, racking up over 3000 hours of community volunteer work. This service, which included feeding the homeless at the Tacoma Rescue Mission and building wheelchair ramps for people in need, garnered him many awards. Among these awards, the Local Hunger Hero Award granted to him by Northwest Harvest, was among his most treasured. His favorite and most prized award, however, was The President's Volunteer Service Award, which earned him the honor and privilege of a signed letter and handshake from President Barack Obama. In addition to Tom donating his time, he also had a huge heart. He continuously sponsored a child from a third world country. This included delivering a suitcase full of school supplies for a former sponsor child's siblings, even after she became an adult.

As a Washingtonian, throughout his life he greatly enjoyed the outdoors, camping, hunting, and hiking. He loved music, old western and tough-guy movies, classic cars and attending car shows. He was an avid cruiser, sailing on 37 cruises, equaling over 260 days at sea. As per his request, his ashes will be spread at sea in the Caribbean.

He is survived by his daughters, Kara and Keena; four grandchildren, Kyle, Reese, Cole, and Raquelle; sister, Peggy; and brother Pete. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Beverly, and brother, Terry.

Services will be held to honor and celebrate Thomas as follows:

Memorial Service at 2pm Monday, Aug 27th at Cedar Community Church in Buckley, followed by a Celebration of Life gathering at the Buckley Eagles Hall at 3 pm.
