Denton Arnold Thorbeck may have grown from humble beginnings but he had enormous vision. Born on August 25, 1931 in Barron, Wisconsin to Arnold and Marvel Thorbeck, Denton came into this world with a strong summer tailwind. It accompanied him through childhood, cooled his skin after long days working the family farm, and always moved him forward. Strong and formidable, as he grew it guided him to where he needed to be and eventually to the United States Air Force. The service allowed him to travel to distant shores, meet new people, and always look at life with wonder. For a time, he was stationed in Thailand, his life filled with his military duties and the robust flavors of Southeast Asia. Denton traveled the world, spending happy times in Taiwan and Venezuela, before settling back with family in Washington state. He retired from the Air Force as a Master Sargent and went on to become a Traffic Supervisor for King County before hanging up his workman’s hat again. He was dedicated, in service to his country, in love to his family, and in his unendingly stalwart work ethic. A great lover of landscaping, rejoicing in his family’s triumphs, bolstering others during tragedies, Denton has left an indelible mark upon this life- his own and that of everyone he met. On January 30, 2021 he went on one last adventure, fast, purposeful, and aided by his trusty tailwind. He was 89 years old. Denton’s memory is carried by his beloved wife Nora; his fantastic children Diane and Dave; and his three wonderous grandchildren Denton, Hanna, and Ken. In honor of his service to our country, Denton will be interred at Tahoma National Cemetery on February 16, 2021. Funeral services are private, but all are welcome to speak with Nora about attending virtually. Remembrances can be made, in Denton’s name, to Saint Matthews Lutheran Church in Renton, Washington. In lieu of flowers, the family would love for you to share your photographs of Denton with them so they may grow their collection and preserve the memory of him.
