Dorothy Blackburn Obituary

Dorothy Blackburn,  90, passed away peacefully December 30, 2019 at High Point Village where she had resided for the last two years.  She was born March 27, 1929 to William and Beatrice (Croft) Woods in Leigh, Lancashire, England.

When she was still young, her family moved to Blackpool where she met Keith Blackburn.  They were married October 7, 1950, then in 1952 immigrated to Ontario, Canada where their children were born.  The family moved to Enumclaw in 1965.

Dorothy and Keith were long-time members of Calvary Presbyterian Church and its Pollywogs couples group where they made many lifelong friends. They spent summer days hiking at Mount Rainier, made a number of trips to England, Scotland and Ireland, and went on cruises to the Caribbean and the Rhine River.

Dorothy was in the church choir and bell choir for many years. She was also a long-time member of P.E.O. and “sewing” club.  Over the years, Dorothy enjoyed bowling, golf, and genealogy and was an avid bridge player. She loved to read, especially historical fiction, British history, and mystery-detective books. She also enjoyed the occasional trip to the horse races, the casino, and to the LDS library in Salt Lake City. She loved her children and grandchildren and was always ready to get together for whatever reason. Although her siblings and cousins live far away, she remained close to them.  Dorothy had a keen sense of humor and a sharp wit.  Even in her last weeks, she would surprise us with a quick comeback.

She was predeceased by her husband, Keith; brother, Raymond Woods; niece, Megan Woods; and nephew, Gordon Woods.

Dorothy leaves behind daughter, Catherine Keeley (James); son, John (Trish); granddaughters, Laura Six (John) and Erin Keeley (Alastair Brownlee); grandson, Robert Blackburn (Randi); three great-grandchildren: Benjamin and William Six, and Lainey Blackburn; sister, Lilian Grinstead; brother, Richard Woods (Nancy); brother, Robert Woods (Petra); sister-in-law, Elaine Woods; niece, Janice Davidson; niece, Helen Wells; and nephew, Ian Woods.

The family would like to thank Franciscan Hospice for their support the last few months.  A thank you also goes to all the staff at High Point Village, especially the Memory Care staff for their kind and respectful care of Dorothy and her family.

A memorial service will be held at 11am on Friday, January 10, 2020 at Calvary Presbyterian Church, 1725 Porter Street, Enumclaw.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 19031 33rd Ave W. Suite 301, Lynnwood, WA 98039.
