Evelyn Oster Obituary

Evelyn Doris Oster was born on the family farm in Ellendale, North Dakota on December 2nd, 1935. She was the daughter of Edward and Emilia (Pfeifle) Kosel. Evelyn was baptized as an infant on March 29th, 1936, and later confirmed by Rev. Mehl in her faith on October 28th, 1952. Her verse, Matthew 6:33, states “But seek ye first His kingdom and his righteousness and all these things will be given to you as well.” Evelyn graduated from 8th Grade in 1948, but always told her children that she learned more in those 8 years of school than what they had to learn throughout their high school education.

Evelyn worked on the Kosel family farm until she and her sister, Bernice, moved to Bismarck, ND and started her first job as a waitress for Woolworth in 1954.

On June 17th, 1956, Evelyn was united in marriage to Iver Oscar Oster at Zion Lutheran Church in Ellendale, North Dakota.  They then bought a farm together in Wing, ND, moved to Bismarck in 1961 until 1966, when they moved their growing family to Enumclaw, Washington, where thy built their life.  Evelyn was blessed with six children in her marriage, Garret, Brenda, Jeffrey, Kevin, Patrick, and Angela, which she always said were her greatest blessing from God.

Evelyn’s life in Enumclaw consisted of caring for her family.  Her days were spent cooking delicious meals, sewing, upholstery, in-home daycare, and finding the best deals in stores to provide for her family.  The things that brought Evelyn the most joy were canning and cooking, music, singing, painting, garage-saling, her daily devotions, and church.  But above all else, her greatest joy was the family that she built.  She loved most to have her children and grandchildren around her and the laughter that so easily came with it.

When asked what her hopes and goals were for the future, Evelyn wrote “that our family will always be close. That there will be no quarrelling over material things. Ever. I pray for good health for all and prosperity.  That not one will ever fall away from our Lord and that we will all meet in Heaven.”  She was a living testament of faith and built her house with God always at the center.

Evelyn was surrounded daily by her children, hymns, and biblical readings until she passed away on Monday, May 4th, 2020 at Hospice House of Spokane in Spokane, Washington, at the age of 84 years.

Today we rejoice that she has the fulfillment of her joy as she is in the presence of her Lord Jesus Christ surrounded by her family in perfect health. To God be the glory.
