Helen Gallion Obituary

Our loving mother Helen Gallion left our world in the early morning hours of February 1st, 2024. She was 97 years old. Helen was born on September 18th, 1926, in Michigan City, North Dakota. Helen was the 6th of the 11 children born to John and Signe (Hammer) Knudtson. Her parents were both born in Norway. She grew up with her family on a farm outside of town. Helen is proceeded in death by her parents, her brothers Kalmer, Melvin, Leroy, Thorbjorn (“Toby”), Norman, Floyd, and her sisters Joise, Ragnhild (“Ragy”), and Sophie. She is also preceded in death by her husband’s Paul Junior Green, John A. Gallion, daughter Paulette Phillips, daughter in-law Sherrie Gallion, grandson Chad Philips and granddaughter Lori Pendergast. Helen leaves behind her son Don, her son Terry and his wife Cindy, her son Kal and his wife Pam, her son-in-law Ron Philips, her sister Sylvia, 6 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great grandchildren.

In 1941, the Knudtson family moved from North Dakota to Algona, Washington.  From 1943-1945, Ragy, Helen and Sophie began performing as the “Three Little Sisters”, playing Country and Western songs on KVI radio and for the troops at local USO shows. On May 11th, 1946, Helen married Paul Junior Green in Auburn, Washington. Paul and Helen had two children, Paulette and Kal. After Paul’s death in 1964, Helen met John Gallion. Helen and John were married in 1966 at Messiah Lutheran Church in Auburn, Washington. John and Helen adopted each other’s children and raised their new family in Enumclaw in the home that John had built. Helen loved tending her flowers and sewing countless clothes for the grandkids. She and John always enjoyed entertaining their grandkids. At the time of John’s passing in 2006, the couple had been married for nearly 40 years.
