Janice Elain (McGinn) Hadfield passed away at home in Enumclaw on September 14, 2021. Janice (or Jan as she liked to be called) was born November 30, 1940 in Tuscola, Illinois to Donald and Betty Jane (Price) McGinn.
Jan was educated in Indianapolis, Indiana schools. She married Jack Hadfield on July 28, 1958. They moved to West Lafayette, Indiana where Jack was a student at Purdue University. Jan graduated from West Lafayette High School. Both of Jan’s children, Terry Anne Huizenga and Timothy Allen Hadfield, were born in Lafayette Indiana.
The family moved to Washington in 1962 when Jack took a job at Boeing. They moved to Enumclaw in 1966. Jan was quite busy after they moved to Enumclaw. She was a Cub Scout den mother and a Campfire leader. She made lifelong friends in local bowling leagues and bridge groups. Jan worked for the Enumclaw Courier Herald Newspaper in the 80’s and 90’s. She started in the darkroom developing photos for the reporters. She was the print shop supervisor when she retired.
Jan was proud to be a ski instructor fully certified by the Pacific Northwest Ski Instructor Association. She taught for the Crystal Mountain Ski School and for the Boeing Employee’s Ski School at Snoqualmie Pass. Jan spent her winter weekends from 1965 to 2000 with the Crystal Mountain Volunteer Ski Patrol helping skiers that were in trouble and supporting the training of prospective patrollers. After they retired, Jack and Jan traveled in various RV’s and automobiles visiting friends all over the country.
Jan is survived by her husband, Jack, of their home, daughter Terry Huizenga of Enumclaw, son Tim Hadfield of Steamboat Springs, CO, granddaughter Andrea Reynoldson (Chris) of Rochester, WA, and two great granddaughters, Maylen and Ayla.
Jan’s family would like to thank the angels of Franciscan Hospice Services who made Jan comfortable in her last days. We particularly appreciate the care provided by Danielle Slape who made sure Jan was always comfortable and happy.
Jan’s services will be at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1535 Washington Ave., Enumclaw, WA at 11:00 AM on October 9th. A celebration of her life will occur when the Covid pandemic allows. Please share a memory of Jan on the tribute wall.
