Jessie Joan Tuttle Nunn ~ Loving Wife, Mother, and Grandmother
Jessie Nunn, age 86, passed away unexpectedly on November 14, 2020. She was born February 25, 1934 in Colfax, Washington to Roy and Ella Tuttle. She met the love of her life, Chuck Nunn, on a double blind date, where Chuck was her friend’s date. You discovered their shared intentions for family and were soon engaged. They married a few months later and spent the next 62 years building a loving family and supporting each other with love, patience, and humor.
Jessie’s family moved often in her early years, but they settled down in Mt. Vernon, Washington long enough for Jessie to make life-long high school friends. She earned a BA in Home Economics from Linfield College in 1956, followed by two years teaching in Seattle Public schools where Jessie made a significant difference in students’ lives. Jessie’s sons, Tad and Tim, followed quickly after her marriage to Chuck and they became the center of her life. Over many years Jessie made a welcoming and supportive home for her children, their friends, and her nieces and nephew. She led Cub Scout groups, planned family vacations with her boys, and brought the extended family to their home yearly for impressive family reunions. In her second career as a real estate agent, she worked diligently and served people as she helped them find their perfect home.
Jessie faithfully served God in every community she lived in through music and church leadership. She directed and sang in the choirs at Renton and Kent First Baptist, Foothills United Methodist in Bonney Lake, and Calvary Presbyterian Church in Enumclaw as well as the Cascade Foothills Chorale. She participated and led Sunday School classes and bible study groups, worked as a paid minister of visitation, and created and led prayer ministries. Every church could count on Jessie to be an active witness to the love of God through her presence, prayers, and generosity.
Jessie’s pride was her family and home. She used her creative talents in the kitchen and garden, growing an amazing variety of specialty fruits and vegetables. All year long she harvested from her own garden, intent on providing the healthiest meals for her family. She never turned down the opportunity to spend time with her grandchildren, extended family, or friends. Her home was a second home to many over the years.
Jessie is survived by her husband Chuck, sons Tad (Julie) and Tim (Lisa), sister Jean, grandchildren Frannie (Yiqiao), Trevor (Kate), and Adelia, and loving nieces, nephew, and cousins, all of whom she loved and touched deeply.
Jessie will be laid to rest at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent. She made a great impact on many people, and a celebration of Jessie’s life will take place as soon as gatherings are possible. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kiwanis Buckley Food Bank, the Buckley Senior Center, or Foothills United Methodist Church in Bonney Lake.
