Jim Van Wieringen Obituary

James Martin Van Wieringen, 96, loving Husband, Dad, Grandpa, Great Grandpa, Brother, Uncle and Friend passed away on October 1, 2018 surrounded by family. Jim was the oldest of five boys, born on March 15, 1922 to Martin and Anne Van Wieringen. The family moved from Oak Harbor to Enumclaw in 1936. Jim graduated from Enumclaw High School in 1940 and continued to work for the family owned business delivering milk and cream to the plateau residents. He met his future wife, Stephanie Mantel and they married in 1946. Jim and Stephanie purchased Boise Creek Dairy in 1956 and together, raised two sons and two daughters.

He loved farming and his passion for repairing tractors and equipment kept him busy. Once retired, he began golfing and looked forward to his weekly game at Jade Greens with the Men’s Club. Jim also enjoyed exhibiting his antique tractors at local shows. Jim and Stephanie loved to travel and eventually purchased a home in Yuma, Arizona where they enjoyed many winters. He was a man of his word with a strong work ethic and led by example. He made a lasting impression on all who met him and will be missed dearly.

Jim is survived by his wife of 72 years, Stephanie; sons, Ed and John; daughters, Debbie Mallery and Connie Haubry; eight grandchildren, Kevin Mallery, Keith Mallery (Tracy), Jason Haubry (Olga), Joshua Haubry (Jennifer), Rebecca Haubry-Schafer (Ken), Cori Finnegan (Derrick), Kellen Van Wieringen (Linzie) and Kramer Van Wieringen; six great-grandchildren, Taylor and Mason Mallery, Ethan Haubry, Kaysen Finnegan and Everley and Marcella Van Wieringen; brother, Kenny Van Wieringen (Floydene); brother-in-law, Al Mantel (Jackie); sisters-in-law, Jan Van Wieringen, Marilyn Van Wieringen, Mary Douglas and Rose Owings; stepbrothers, Aaron Babcock and Lee Babcock; stepsister, Alice Christie; and a large extended family. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Arnie, Neal and Stan Van Wieringen.
