Enumclaw resident Joan Bernice (Lawrence) Skieens (78), passed away at her home on August 25th, 2021 after a prolonged illness.
She was born on January 9th, 1943 in Seattle, Washington to Ruby Bernice (Scriven) and James Wicks. Joan is also the adopted daughter of Lloyd Lawrence. She spent all of her school years in Enumclaw and graduated with her class of 1961.
Joan studied ballet for 8 years while she was in school and enjoyed all of her recitals in the old high school auditorium. She later worked for the Rainier School for 15 years and retired from there in 1990. Her husband, Jim, and she loved to travel in their motor home to collect antique oil lamps and associated parts, especially those made in the 1800’s.
Survived by her three sons, Carey (Chrissy), Lee (Stephanie), and Jim (Lisa) Parkerson; stepdaughter, Karen Skieens; two stepsons, David (Melinda), and Edward (Chris) Skieens; four grandchildren and five step-grandchildren.
Preceded by her parents; her sister, Maria; first husband, Lee Parkerson; and the love of her life, Jim Skieens in December of 2015. Joan will be laid to rest between Jim and her mother in the Enumclaw Evergreen Memorial Park.
