Carbonado resident R. Kent Visnaw, 78, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2022. He was born in Wenatchee, WA on May 7, 1944, to Ruth (Goer) Visnaw and Frank Visnaw who preceded him in death. Kent grew up in Sumner, WA where he was very involved in FFA. He moved to Buckley in 1955, and graduated from White River High School in 1962, then enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was a specialist in the Army’s 3rd Radio Research Unit out of Fort Campbell, KY. His unit supported the missions of the 101st Airborne in Vietnam. He is a graduate of Airborne school completing jumps at Ft. Benning, Ft. Campbell, and Vietnam. He held a top-secret security clearance and qualified as an expert on the M14 and M16. He was honorably discharged in 1965.
Kent was married to the love of his life, Mary Beth Jones in 1964, prior to his deployment to Vietnam. They lived in Kentucky for a short time before making their home in Carbonado. They were married for 42 years at the time of Mary Beth’s passing in 2007.
Kent helped his dad build Viz’s Dairy Diner and Turbojet Inc. in Buckley. They built fiberglass commercial fishing boats for many years. He then went on to own and operate Carbonado Molding Company making customized parts for Kenworth, PreCor and Flex-A-Lite. He later became a rural carrier in Black Diamond and retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He instilled in his family his faith, strong work ethic, and generosity.
Kent was an avid hunter and a proud member of the Wolfpack Hunting Club, Wilkeson Eagles, Carbonado Community Church, and Carbonado School Board. He also retired from the Carbonado Volunteer Fire Department. He had numerous hobbies such as bowling, hiking, golfing, playing cards with friends, adopt-a-highway program, gardening, and yard work. He enjoyed helping his children and friends with numerous projects. He always had a spirit of adventure and generosity with his five grandchildren.
Kent was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his sister Michele, and brother Todd. He is survived by his aunt Carol, children Penny (Joe) Frame, Paula Visnaw, Jason (Kristin) Visnaw, and grandchildren Brock (Becca) Frame, Alex Chan-Son, Abigail Frame, Wyatt Visnaw, and Gabe Visnaw, as well as Niece Stephannie (Darrin) Dahl, brothers-in-law Clifford Jones and David (Marilyn) Jones.
A graveside service is planned for May 21st at 1:00PM at the Carbonado Cemetery, and a Celebration of Life is planned for June 25th at 11:00AM at the Carbonado Community Church.
