Obituary

Leah Maxine Moses, a cherished member of the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe, was born on March 27, 1941, in Tacoma, Washington, to Robert Leroy Allen, Sr., and Aletha Isabelle Daniels. With heavy hearts, we announce her passing on July 5, 2023, in Auburn, Washington.

Leah dedicated her working years to the tribe, where she contributed her talents to the Smokeshop.  She also served as a cook at Birth to Three and played an instrumental role as one of the founders of the Muckleshoot Headstart program, leaving a lasting impact on the community she deeply cared for. Leah possessed a wealth of traditional skills and crafts.  She took great pleasure in cedar weaving, sewing, cooking, beading, crocheting, embroidering, and sharing her knowledge with others. Her green thumb found joy in gardening, and she loved canning.  Leah was also an adventurous soul who love Goodwill-ing and traveling.

Leah’s memory will be forever cherished by her son, Lonnie Moses, and her daughters, Loretta Moses, Bonnie Sohappy, Annette Marsette, Aletha Ortiz, and Mona Millan.  Her sisters Tweet Oliver, Peachy Ungaro, Valarie Bellack, and Milli White. She also leaves behind her brother, Robert Allen, Jr., and 17 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ronald “Lonnie” Moses, her mother, Aletha White, her father, Robert Allen, Sr., her sister Wanda Allen, her brothers, Walter Allen, Donald Allen, and George White, grandson Carmelo Millan, Jr., and her great grandchild, Baby Sohappy-Tahkeal.  Their spirits have now reunited with Leah, providing comfort and solace.

Leah Maxine Moses will forever be remembered for her unwavering dedication to her community, and her passion for preserving and sharing her cultural heritage.  May her soul find eternal peace and may her memory comfort those who loved her.
