Patrick Chambers Obituary

Patrick J. Chambers was born in Fallon, Nevada on January 18, 1959.  After a hard-fought battle with cancer, at the age of 63, he passed away peacefully at home in Enumclaw, Washington on May 24th, 2022.

Born to James and Monica Chambers (Jim and Jackie), Pat was the youngest of four boys, joining his brothers John, Frank, and Michael, and during his first year of life, his family moved to Oak Harbor, Washington. He spent his entire childhood there, attending and graduating from Oak Harbor schools, helping raise cattle on their family’s small farm, and eventually meeting his wife, Kenda.

Patrick and Kenda (Kammenga) lived just down the road from one another, and became friends early on, chatting after getting off the school bus and eventually dating while Kenda was in her Junior year of high school. They were married on June 20th, 1981 at Oak Harbor Lutheran Church. His new in-laws, Ken and Linda Kammenga, gladly welcomed Pat, a happy and hard-working neighbor boy, to the family. Pat had just graduated from Western Washington University with a Bachelor’s of Science, majoring in physics and minoring in mathematics. Fresh out of college, Pat quickly started what was to become his career in computer systems at Boeing, and upon his hiring, the newlyweds headed to Kent, Washington to begin their journey of 41 years as husband and wife.

Pat and Kenda spent 25 years in Kent. During this time, they built a family, having two girls, Casandra (Rief) and Marcia (Lathrop). After their move to Enumclaw in 2006, the family continued to grow and now includes son-in-law, Joseph Rief, as well as grandchildren, Elizabeth, James, Willard, George, and Ava. After 36 years, Pat retired from his career at Boeing, spending more time at home doing the things that brought him joy.

Pat enjoyed many things in his life, most of which involved the outdoors. At home, he loved to be in the garden, growing things that he could harvest to create a beautiful home cooked meal, preserve by canning or drying, or share with family and friends. His grandkids loved having a fun ride through the field on the tractor with Grandpa or munching produce straight from the garden as he shared information about the different types of plants he was tending.

Pat also enjoyed camping and hiking with his family, learning and conversing about science, space, and the universe, golfing with his friends, or handcrafting items in his workshop. He loved creating works of art out of wood that were both functional and beautiful. He never claimed to be an artist, but the many pieces he created certainly told a different story. From laminated wood bowls that he created on his lathe, to unique one-of-a-kind trucks for each grandchild, to frames for Kenda to use in their home, Pat loved woodworking.

As a child of God, he was called home on May 24th, 2022, joining those that preceded him, his parents, his father-in-law, and step father-in-law.

A son, a brother, a husband, a father, a grandfather, a leader, a scientist, a teacher, a co-worker, a friend, Patrick Chambers was many things to many people. His memory lives on in the lives of those he surrounded himself with, those that loved him and knew him best.
