Philipp James Wall was born on December 26, 1939, in Omak, Washington. He grew up on the farm in Buckley with all kinds of animals. He started driving log and semi-trucks at the age of 14 and retired in the 1990s. Phil graduated from Buckley High School in 1958. In 1965, he married Darline and raised her four kids, Debby, David, Jeanette, and Sheri, as his own in Buckley. Their daughter, Darla, came along in 1973. Unfortunately, Darline passed in 2002. The following year, he met and married Shirley Gulan. They spent the last 20 years together in Enumclaw, until his death on July 30, 2023 at the age of 83.
Phil was an avid outdoorsman, spending his free time hunting, fishing, camping, and four wheeling with friends and family. He coached boys baseball teams in the 1970s and was supportive of Darla’s horseshow efforts. He loved to challenge his friends to games of horseshoes, pinochle, and cribbage. He spent countless hours restoring antiques, especially tractors and his 1955 Ford pickup, often showing them off at fairs, tractor pulls, and car shows.
Phil was very active in the community. He was a long-time member of the Buckley Eagles, served 25 years on the Buckley Fire Department, and belonged to the Rainier Antique Tractor Club. He could often be found playing cards and Bingo at the Buckley and Enumclaw Senior Centers.
He was preceded in death by his wife Darline and daughters Debby Hayes and Jeanette West. He leaves behind his sister Arlene Williams; wife Shirley; son David Hansen; daughters Sheri Wolfenbarger and Darla Mays; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Please join us for a Celebration of Phil’s Life on Sunday, August 20, 2023. The potluck will take place at the Buckley Eagles at 2:00 pm.
