Robert "Bob" Schloredt Obituary

Robert "Bob" Sevey Schloredt, Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away Thursday, May 16th, 2019. He was born in 1939 in Deadwood, South Dakota to Robert Lee & Creeta Schloredt and was joined a few years later by his sister Linda. He grew up enjoying all sports excelling in  football, baseball, basketball, water skiing and boxing. At the age of seven he lost sight in his left eye resulting from a firecracker accident.  In 1950, his family found their forever home on a beautiful small lake outside of Portland, OR. He graduated from Gresham High School a decorated athlete and, after being heavily recruited by many colleges for his football talent, he chose to attend the University of Washington (UW). At the UW he earned a degree in Economics while leading the UW Football team to back to back Rose Bowl victories in 1960 and 1961 as their MVP.

After college, Bob had the opportunity to play in the NFL, the Canadian Football League (CFL) or become a professional water-skier.  He pursued the CFL opportunity and  headed north to Vancouver, Canada to join the BC Lions.  Bob eventually moved to Seattle, started a family and accepted the Head Defensive Coordinator position at UW under Jim Owens. During Bob’s  11 season tenure, he recruited and shaped the next generation of Husky football players. He pursued his next coaching position with the World Football Leagues’ Hawaii Hawaiians. In Hawaii, he raised his daughters, Kim & Keri, and coached their soccer and softball teams and taught them tennis & golf. He was his most true self as a coach and inspired hundreds of youth in this capacity over the next decades.

Family was Bob’s True North, without question.  This compass led him back to Seattle in 1978 where he remained the rest of his life. He met the love of his life, Andriea, on the softball field in 1979 as her daughter, Corrie, was a teammate of Keri’s and a player on his team. They wed in May of 1989 and he gained two more children to love and raise, Corrie & Matt.   For many years, Bob coached softball for Richmond Little league influencing the lives of many youth in the Seattle area. His girls’ All-Star teams always advanced to State finals, ultimately winning WA State title and reaching the Far West Regionals..  When he wasn’t coaching, you would find Bob in the bleachers watching ALL his children compete. His coaching style taught kids to excel in the fundamentals, to be mentally tough, tenacious and a good sport.  In later years, Bob coached and watched his grandchildren in their sporting events from the day they started all the way through their HS careers.  For some, he traveled long distances to watch them play in college or the pros. No game was too insignificant or too far for him to travel.   It was always a treat to share the stands with Bob to enjoy his one-liners, knowledge of the sport and devotion to his family. There were many family trips back to Blue Lake to visit his parents, sister & nephews where Bob taught all the kids to water-ski, jump start off the dock and run a ski-boat. Even in his late 40’s, Bob was the best water-skier on the lake and was known for spraying any paddle boat or dock of people. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing with his grandchildren and being the celebrity in charity golf tournaments, where he was the go-to for sinking any putt under pressure. There were many family trips to Montana to snow ski and vacation with family.  Bob also looked forward to the Morris family reunions and enjoyed the massive extended family he gained on Andriea’s side.  He is well known in the family as the one who donned the Santa suit to hand out presents at Christmas to the kids.  In later years, Bob and Andriea treated each grandchild to Disneyland as a special trip just for them.

He is survived by his wife, Andriea Schloredt, sister, Linda Schloredt Ray, four children, twelve grandchildren, four great grandchildren and two nephews. Here are the families listed together by family. Kim & Bob Rankin along with their 4 children, spouses and grandkids. J. Connor & Christy (Jaxon & Alexis) Rankin, R.S.
