Sarah Schneider Obituary

Sarah Emma (Munson) Schneider, 96, passed away peacefully of natural causes Tuesday, August 25. Sarah was preceded in death by her husband Elmer Schneider, her brothers Lewis, Kenneth, Robert, and Emmett Munson, sister Nellie Zacharda, son Allen Schneider, son-in-law Gene Richardson, granddaughter Kimberly Kay (Sarvela) Rammler, and grandson Daniel Mark Schneider. She is survived by daughters Rachel Richardson, and Rebecca (Becky) Sarvela and husband Randy; daughter-in-law Shar Schneider; sons Wayne and wife Joy, Lowell and wife Deb, and Bruce; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was also beloved as “Aunt Sarah” to numerous nieces, nephews, and their children.

Sarah was born February 26, 1924 in Cass County, Minnesota, the oldest child of Lewis D. Munson, a World War I veteran and Purple Heart recipient, and Sarah Nellie (Russell) Munson, a schoolteacher. She grew up on their farm outside Randall, MN, helping to raise her younger brothers and sister. Elmer and Sarah married in 1944, starting their family with their first three children born while living in Randall, MN. They moved to Washington State in 1956 where they lived in various places, particularly Kent, Buckley, and Enumclaw, and rounded out their family to an even half-dozen children with the birth of their last three sons.

A devout Christian, Sarah was a devoted member of the Assembly of God church. Many will remember her from her time in the Kent, South Prairie, Buckley, Enumclaw, and Sumner Assembly of God churches where she often taught Sunday School, led Missionettes, and for many years was the treasurer  for the church in South Prairie.

Most will also remember Sarah with a crochet hook in her hand whenever her body was idle. Many family, friends, and charities benefited from this lifelong hobby.

The family wishes to especially thank the staff at Serenity Acres Adult Family Home, Eatonville, for their wonderful care for her over the last two years.

She will be greatly missed by both friends and family. Her family held a small graveside memorial service at Enumclaw Evergreen Memorial Park, the afternoon of Monday, August 31. The family asks that memorial donations be made to Angel Tree, Samaritan’s Purse, or a charity of your choice supporting either children or the homeless.
