Sonja Irene (Sonneson) Gierke

Sonja Irene Sonneson Gierke passed away November 5, 2021, following several years of declining health. She was born June 22, 1939, to Arthur and Mazie (Ford) Sonneson. Her childhood was filled with joyful times in Enumclaw in the 40’s and 50’s – camping, fishing, and family events. She graduated from EHS in 1958 and cherished lifelong friendships with classmates. In 1968 Sonja married Robert Gierke. They built a house on property that had been her grandfather’s. Their home was open to family and friends near and far. Sonja loved the outdoors, especially camping and clamming at Roosevelt Beach. She was predeceased by her brother Wayne Sonneson and her husband Bob. She is survived by her brothers Leonard of Barriere, BC and Howard (Judi) of Tahuya, WA, as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family. Memorial contributions may be made to local charities in recognition of Sonja’s generosity.

A celebration of life is being planned for next Spring.
