Terry Mahar Obituary

Terry Lynn Mahar passed away on February 20, 2019. He was born April 10, 1945 in Seattle. His mother took one look at him and thought when I first saw you with your smile so tender, my heart was captured, my soul surrendered.   She couldn’t help falling in love with him.  Like the Elvis songs Terry couldn’t get enough of, people were simply drawn to him and his charismatic nature.  People wanted to spend time with him, be surrounded by his energy, and they wanted a little bit of his kind of “feel-good” in their lives.  Honest and enthusiastic about his love for Elvis, Terry often gave heartfelt renditions of Elvis songs and at times could be caught dressed up as The King.  Since Terry wanted to be the best kind of man, he joined the Marines.  In the United States Marine Corps ambition is a dream with a V8 engine and he used the drive, gumption, and self-belief that Elvis taught him.  He was proud to be a Marine and worked hard to serve his country well.  After a hard day of basic training you could eat a rattlesnake.  So, like Elvis, Terry did that too.  He consumed the things in life that gave him strength and not all were food.  Terry filled his life with love of family, of music, and of all things Elvis. He loved to ride his Harley and spend time with his brothers and sisters at the Greenhouse.  He fed his heart as well as his belly.  In the end if Elvis taught Terry anything it was that you should live each day as if it were your lastIt’s written in the stars; your destiny is cast.  But damn, if you can work a Harley into your day you best do it.  Those who were Terry’s through all the years and will continue till the end of time are his family: siblings, Boyd Dringle (Debra), Jody Day (Dave), Tim Dringle (Claudette), Laurie Vanlandingham (Chewy), DeeDee Dringle, Tawni Gillis (Bruce Erhardt); his nieces and nephews Chrissy Dringle, Marlina Phillips, Tia Gillis, Amia Vanlandingham, Dace Hutson, Arron Hamilton, Trace Vanlandingham, Caven Vanlandingham, and Nathan Gillis; his great-nieces and great-nephews Sakura Falgout, Ellen McBee, and Eden McBee; his children Misty Johnson, April Phy, Teresa Mahar, Bambi Angeline Brittain, Crystal Thomas, Melissa Thomas, and Jeremiah Chase Mahar; along with his 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wonderful parents Margie and Charles Dringle.  For the friends, fans, and enthusiasts Terry leaves behind, don’t be cruel to a heart that’s true, why should we be apart?  I really love you baby, cross my heart.

A public viewing will be held from 4-8pm on Wednesday March 20, 2019 at Weeks’ Enumclaw Funeral Home.  In recognition of his service to our country Terry will be honored at a graveside service at 2pm on Thursday March 21, 2019 at Tahoma National Cemetery.
