On Friday, January 20, 2023, Timothy C. Lally, 82, of Enumclaw, a beloved husband and father, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family.
Tim is survived by his loving family, wife, Mary, children Brian and Jennifer, brothers Ted (Kathy), Owen (Karen) along with many other loving family members.
Tim was born in New York City to Theodore and Eleanor Lally on December 2, 1940. There he attended school and in 1958 joined the US Navy where he served aboard the USS Independence (plank owner) as an Electricians Mate. Tim had a passion for aviation and attained his multi-engine pilot’s license and aircraft mechanic’s license. He worked for several airlines in New York and New Jersey prior to moving to Washington in 1969. Tim worked for Lake Union Air Service in Seattle where he flew float planes in the Pacific NW and Canada and was a flight instructor. Tim joined the King County Sheriff’s Department, serving 22 years as a Deputy assigned primarily to SE King County. Additionally, he had assignments as a Detective, in Traffic Enforcement and Marine Patrol. He also was a (hilarious) Field Training Officer and a member of Rescue 1 as an EMT and diver. Tim rounded out his working career by again returning to work as an aviation mechanic on Boeing Field for several years. Tim enjoyed work but he enjoyed retirement more.
A true Irishman, Tim had the gift of gab and was always ready to tell a story with a twinkle in his eye and a grin. He had a passion for travel, especially to Ireland, where he loved to connect with Irish relatives from Belcarra, County Mayo, and enjoy good craic and Jameson whiskey. As an avid reader he enjoyed researching the military history of northwestern Europe and genealogy. Tim enjoyed attending and participating in the Scottish Highland Games throughout the country, fishing trips to Florida and Alaska, collecting antique militaria, being outdoors, and completing home projects. He was a model train enthusiast, loved his horses and cats, Irish food, great whiskey, storytelling, laughter and sharing good times with friends and family.
Tim was an active member of the Scottish-American Military Society (SAMS), where he held several elected leadership positions including National Commander for two terms as well as local SAMS Post 1889 positions. For almost four decades Tim was a staple in the SAMS booth, in the SAMS Color Guard, and at Celtic events around Puget Sound. He was a member of the Canadian Scottish Regiment (Princess Mary’s) in Victoria, B.C, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), and the American Legion. He was a proud patriot.
Tim will be dearly missed by many.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made in Tim’s honor to Wreaths Across America.
On February 2, 2023, a Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church, 1614 Farrelly Street, Enumclaw, followed by an Internment Service at 2:00 PM at Tahoma National Cemetery, 18600 SE 240th Street, Kent.
