Velma Mildred “Rustie” Taylor, 94, received her wings on September 19, 2021. She was born on September 1, 1927 to James Virgil and Mary Catherine (Easton) Vannoy in North Platte, NE.
Velma married the love of her life, Donald LeRoy “Toby” Taylor on August 26, 1950 and shared 71 years of laughter, love, and memories. They raised 3 children: Tamara Jo, Donald LeRoy Jr, and Kathy Marie on 8th Ave. So. in Seattle, before moving to their home in Enumclaw.
Velma graduated from Cleveland High School, and wore many “hats” in her early employment, including “Rosie the Riveter” working for Boeing during WWII. In 1959, Velma and Don started their own business, T & T Trucking, which is still going today.
Even though running a business is demanding, Velma still found time to bake and preserve, her pies being much loved. And her love of gardening is still blooming today, shared in starter plants given to any and all who would take them home! She really was born with a “green” thumb!
The many photos show Don and Velma enjoyed their travels, which included Hawaii and fishing in Alaska, as well as in the continental states. Many family memories were made at their property on the Yakima River and at their cabin in Chelan.
Velma leaves her husband, Don, 3 children, 12 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren to carry on the love and to continue making memories.
