William Harp Obituary

William “Billy” George Harp came into this world on July 17, 1967.  He was larger than life and fought his last battle with Superman on January 1, 2022.   Billy was born to William & Vicki Harp of Black Diamond, WA.  Although he traveled from the Panama Canal to the Bering Sea, and a lot of places in between, Black Diamond was his family home.

After high school, Bill attended Universal Technical Institute in Arizona where he studied to become a Diesel Mechanic. After technical school, and at the age of 21, Bill left for Dutch Harbor, Alaska where he would lose his heart to his first real love, crabbing in the Bering Sea. Although Bill moved on and spent the next 3+ decades working as a mechanic, logger, and small works contractor he never forgot the sea.

He met his wife Ronda Phillips 29 years ago while helicopter logging near Wenatchee.  They resided in the Bridgeport, WA area for many years raising their family before resettling back in the Plateau area. He loved his role as “Papa” to Aidan, Vanessa, Allison, Xander, Aria and Axl and was the best “Uncle Bill” to many nieces and nephews.

To know Bill was to know a legendary storyteller, a great karaoke singer, a lover of antiques, and a master BBQ chef.  He was the maker of the best soup and smoked meats and lover of cards, dice, and scrabble.  He was the original fix-it guy. To know him was also to know an imperfect, but kind heart that was there to fix a car at the top of the pass in a snowstorm usually, at an odd hour, or to smoke you a ham if you didn’t have a holiday meal.

Bill is survived by his wife Ronda, and children Kalen (Jamie) & Elizabeth Phillips, (6) grandchildren; his mother Vicki Harp, brothers Jeff & Travis, sister Cindy, and many a friend who were eager to call him their brother.  He was preceded in death by his father William C. Harp.

Rest in Peace “Wild Bill”
