Purple Heart and Bronze Star recipient Walter William “Buddy” Rex, 68, died October 9, 2017 in Seattle, Washington. He was born December 29, 1948, in Seattle to Wesley and Thelma (Haukland) Rex.

Buddy served in the Army and was a Vietnam veteran. He was also an accomplished woodworker, building furniture and canoes. From Day 1, he was a Seahawk fan. Buddy took great pride in his home, loved nature and was fascinated by science and astronomy. He loved his family and friends and was an excellent poker player. Buddy had a generous heart and loved unconditionally.

He is survived by a son, Keith Rex of Tacoma, Washington; daughters, Michelle Menrath (Steve) of Dallas, Texas, Laura Straight (Trevor) of Auburn, Washington, and Julie Linehan (Chris) of Des Moines, Washington; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A graveside service will take place at 2 p.m., Friday, October 27, at Enumclaw Evergreen Memorial Park, followed by a celebration of life at the Enumclaw VFW.
